Barbara has taught enameling workshops across the United States and abroad since the late 1980's. Her courses vary in length depending on the needs of the host venue and are suitable for those who are new to enameling as well as those who have been enameling for some time. The focus of each class can be on the basics, use of opaque or transparent enamels and surface design, experimental enameling and enameling on three dimensional forms. The specific content of any class is fine tuned so it meets the particular needs of the students who will be attending the class. Please contact Barbara for examples of class descriptions and other relevant particulars
Barbara has recently established Fusion Flow 1450(part of the Transference Project) as an on-line teach/learn/work alternative to in-person workshop dedicated to sharing her knowledge about enameling and jewelry making techniques. Classes are designed to be a place where students can learn, practice and excel in their enameling, jewelry making and metalworking skills through small group classes. The inaugural class in enameling will begin soon. All instructional classes include hands-on working time so students can become proficient with the techniques they learn. Students are encouraged to make pieces that express their individual ideas and visions. Classes are limited to 6 students. The small group provides an in person opportunity for students to learn and interact with each other and the instructor. Between classes students can work and develop their skills knowing there will a time for individual attention, feedback on results and answers to question..
"After 30+ years of teaching enameling/jewelry techniques and showing my enamel jewelry all over the world, I have decided, based on numerous requests, to develop an on-line teaching presence. During each group of classes, students will be able to learn new information and have time to complete projects or experiments with assistance while developing a community and having some fun."
Classes offered will be focused on enameling and jewelry making techniques that are both process and project oriented. Time during class will be balanced to allow for in-depth demonstrations of the techniques/methods being taught, with plenty of time for questions and feedback.
"Over the years I have learned, perfected and developed many methods for enameling on copper to create a vibrant interesting surfaces, unlike any other, in jewelry and other types of objects. My methods for creating and setting enamels vary and include a wide variety of metalsmithing and jewelry making processes. I use formed metal; soldered, tabbed and riveted settings; and the integration of other gemstones and materials with the enamel piece to create a finished piece of jewelry. The classes I offer will share this wealth of information, provide a solid foundation for the beginner and an in-depth review for the more experienced individual in both enameling and jewelry techniques."
"Enameling is currently enjoying an increased interest, but many are still very confused about how to use the enamels and what types of kilns, tools and supplies to order. My classes will give students the opportunity to learn enameling techniques based on reliable information that removes all the mystery and will give confidence to those wishing to set up a home studio. Enameling is not hard. It does take practice. Application of logical principles makes enameling fun because the results can be repeated and predictable results can be achieved."
On-line classes will be 1.5-2 hours long - once a week. Time to be determined - with a 10 minute break for. Some classes may include a separate feedback/question & answer session that will be scheduled on a class-by-class basis.
Students will be provided with a supply/tool list and a downloadable PDF with notes on each process covered when they register. It is possible to just attend and absorb the information as it is not imperative that each participant do the "plan of work" each week. That said, it is probably more beneficial to be able to participate in the individual studio portion of the class and discussions about the week's work..
Barbara is also available to travel to your location to teach - when the Covid 19 Pandemic issues are better resolved. Please contact her for regarding subject matter, fees and your specific interests via email [email protected] or phone (225)-929-6964
It is possible to schecule private classes, longer classes, classes focusing on a specific/requested subject matter and classes for your specific group. Please get in touch with Barbara via email [email protected]
